Thanks for posting. I am somewhat new to all grain and attempted this beer yesterday from a recipe provided on a different website. I like how you posted the photo of the outcome.

Being new to all-grain I have to ask you a few questions about this recipe..

Is the batch size you set at 5 gallons here what you put into your fermenter, or is it 5 gallons pre-boil volume? I only ended up with around 3-3.5 gallons in my fermenter with the same amount of grain etc. My beer will probably be really strong eh? I want to hit this spot on so please helppppp haha

Thank you for this review. The German Octoberfest/marzens tend to be lighter and more drinkable then their American cousins. This is one of the beers that is in the tent in Munich and thus needs to be extremely drinkable. I get so tired of reading reviews from American tasters that do not understand this fact. Americans seem to think a "real" Octoberfest beer should be copper colored and as you mentioned "in your face". That is not true at all.

Ha, to be honest I haven't gotten around to it. As you can see, my time has went from all day to not much at all. In the last month I was made the Beer manager of the store and I have been having some crazy hours. We're moving to a new location so when I get home i just crack open a beer and chill. I still hope to post every now and again.

I got my pie pumpkins from a local farmer. The stems were still weeping they were so fresh. And they were a bargin at a dollar each. I only just now started to see pumpkins in the store and those are jacks and not pies. I don't recomend the use of jacks. They work but they're not as sweet.

Also our halloween party should be spectacular.

That's awesome! Def tell me how it turns out in the end. When I was first formulating this recipe I used whole pie pumpkins but being that I like to brew it in september to have it ready for the pumpkin season I usually cannot find them at the stores yet. I agree that the spice mix is perfect, it took some time getting it right but it paid off.

Did you recipe two weeks ago. Just put it into secondary. Used 7 pumpkin pie pumpkins, oven roastde ane then re-roasted. Sample from the hydrometer tasted like a pumpkin pie smoothy. The spice was dead on my friend.
